Abhyangam(Snehana) which means massage, is a very famous treatment in Ayurveda. This treatment uses a special medicated oil for massage. It is carried out before all major treatments in Panchakarma like Vamana, Virechana, Basti , Nasya , etc. This treatment helps the patients to keep their bodies healthy and balanced. Accumulated stress and toxins in the mind and body gets dissolved during this massage. A full-body warm oil massage therefore acts as a powerful recharger and rejuvenator of mind and body.
Abhayanga also helps in increasing circulation, toning up of muscles, calming of nerves, lubrication of joints and increased mental alertness. It gives good strength to the body, enhances age, luster of skin, improves eye-sight, induces good sleep and relieves vatha aggravation. Shirodhara, Shirobasti, Akashi Tarpana, Karna purana, etc are the different snehana/abhyangam procedures. It is beneficial in rigidity, pain, paralysis, head-ache, nervous system diseases, joint diseases, sleeplessness, mental disorders, etc

This therapy is one among Panchakarma which eliminates excess Pitta from the body. Virechan is performed by administering Virechak Aushdhi (purgative medicine) in milk or warm water preparation after proper preparation of the individual through Poorvakarmas. This therapy is extremely beneficial in Pitta disorders such as dermatitis, chronic fever, heartburn, jaundice, etc.
Nasya therapy is a process wherein the drug (herbalized oils and liquid medicines) is instilled into nostrils. Highly effective for headaches, sinusitis, migraine and rhinitis. Effective in recurrent cold, allergic , facial paralysis, ENT disorders, cervical spondylosis, and epilepsy and stammering. It also prevents the early graying of hair and bear.
Ayurvedic Basti(Enema) is considered as the key activity of all Panchakarma treatments since it cleanses the accumulated toxis through the colon.
It is highly beneficial in cleansing and detoxifying the body. Medicated oil or ghee and a herbal combination is used as enema to clean the colon. It helps in increasing the muscle tone too. People suffering from constipation would find the treatment beneficial, because it promotes the liquefaction of ama and mala (waste products) in the colon.
It relieves constipation, distention, chronic fever, cold, sexual disorders, kidney stones, heart pain, backache, sciatica and other pains in the joints. Many other vata disorders such as arthritis, rheumatism, gout, muscle spasms and headaches may also be treated with basti. Pinda swedana is a process by which the whole body/sepcific part is made to perspire. This is done by external application of medicinal boluses, which are ties in a cloth bog. It is a massage used heal Vata diseases, especially neuromuscular disorders, improve blood circulation and remove wastes. According to Ayurveda, the treatment helps to awaken the memory of the cells. It is always performed with bhyanga and swedana. This is a procedure in which a belt is fastened around the head covering the portion of the forehead so a well like formation takes place over the head. This well is then filled with oil and kept for some time. This is also beneficial in diseases of the head especially in difficulties arising due to injuries to the head.
