Chakra Basti
The phrase Chakra Basti is from Sanskrit. The word Chakra means wheel or disk and Basti stands for a Container or retaining something inside. Chakra basti, also called nabhi basti (navel basti), is applied to the umbilical region. Nabhi the umbilicus is considered as marma in Ayurveda. Marma (vital area) is an anatomical area where arteries, tendons, flesh, veins, bones and joints meet to form the location of life. Anatomical areas where structures pulsate and where the pain exist on pressing can be named as marma. Sage Sushrutha numbered them as 107. Nabhi marma is the vital center where 72,000 nadis (the subtle energy pathways) converge.
An Ayurvedic physician selects the type of medicated oil or ghee to be used, after accessing the body constitution and doshic imbalance.The person is made to lie down over back. A dough is prepared out of black gram flour or whole wheat flour. It is then made into a small ring of four to five inches in diameter and placed over naval area. The edges are glued to the skin using a small amount of water. The Chakra Basti is performed by filling the hot medicated oil or ghee in this dam either by gently pouring or squeezed in with cotton gauze. When the oil or ghee cools down it is squeezed out and replaced with more warm ones. The procedure does local oleation and local sudation simultaneously. Greeva Basti
The phrase Greeva Basti is from Sanskrit. The word Greeva refers to neck and Basti stands for container or retaining something inside. It is an Ayurvedic neck care and basically a hot oil therapy. Greeva Basti is bathing the neck region with medicated oil or freshly prepared herbal decoction. The procedure does oleation and sudation around the neck region simultaneously. Due to present day lifestyle which involves continued and glued sitting position and lack of body movements the problems of the spine, muscles and skeletal tissues of neck and shoulder arise. Greeva Basti addresses these issues effectively.
