Indus Valley Ayurvedic Center - Mysore

The rishis of ancient India through deep meditation were able to pierce the veil of illusion and see the  underlying mechanics of the manifest world.  What they could see was that everyone and everything is made of five elements that interchange and morph into that which can been seen, touched, heard, tasted, and smelled.  These fundamental elements are air (vayu), space (akasha), fire (agni), water (jala), and earth (prithivi). They were also able to experience the source of the five elements as pure silence and unbounded awareness.

The most fundamental element is space.  Space is unbounded and infinite.  It is also called Akasha and is the first manifestation of pure awareness. When we think of space, we can imagine the unlimited canopy of the sky or the infinite galaxies and within the human body, it is the hollow spaces and cavities within bone structure and the colon.  As space becomes more condensed, atoms and molecules are created and space becomes a notch more manifest as air.  Air is moving, light, cool, and unstable and as it moves quicker and quicker a friction is created and transforms itself into fire.  Air is connected to thoughts and movement in the human system. Fire is hot, consuming, transformational, and powerful.  In the human body it is connected to metabolism, digestion, blood, and hormone functions.

This fire melts everything into a liquid state and this liquid is the water element.  Water is cool, heavy, flowing, and moist.  This water then solidifies into Earth element.  Earth has qualities of solidity, groundedness, coolness, moisture, and density. These are the fundamental elements that overlap with each other, combine, and continually fluctuate in all of manifest creation.  All animal, plant, mineral, and human physiology have a unique combination and pattern of these five elements.

Additional Information

Ashwini Mathur apty states that "reported lack of efficacy of Ayurvedic treatments in clinical trialsis often not due to inefficacy of the treatments itself, but arises from inadequacies of trial design. Ayurvedic interventions should exclusively use its multi-component, individualized and inherently holistic approach and that general guidelines for rigorously reporting such clinical trials should be developed"

There are several methodologies to conduct good clinical trials as The CONSORT (CONsolidated Standards of Reporting) has released guidelines on reporting of trials using herbal products. The SPIRIT initiative defines Standard Protocol Items for Randomized trials. In epidemiology, the STrengthening the Reporting of OBservational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) statement simlarly aims to strengthen reporting of observational studies, while the Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) group has prepared checklists for meta-analysis of observational studies. Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Non- randomized Designs (TREND) statements concern methods of research design to eliminate biases in non randomized studies. Ayurveda would certainly benefit from similar guidelines. Ayurveda needs to take a giant leap forward to position itself alongside the modern medicine to be truly integrative. The benefits of Ayurveda is only being realized at the minuscule level world wide. Proper presentation of Ayurveda to the world is the need of the hour.

Specialities

Panchakarma
Indus Valley Ayurveda Center offers full Panchakarma therapies which are ancient scientific procedures to remove accumulated physical toxins called ama. Ama can be caused by environmental factors such as exposure to carcinogenic products and vapors, first and second hand cigarette smoke, excess recreational and allopathic drugs, electromagnetic radiation, ingestion of toxic food and beverages or be created within the body from residue of partially digested food and stress. The main purpose of panchakarma is to cleanse the large and small channels of the body called shrotas, remove toxins from the tissues and organs, and completely rejuvenate the physiology, mind, emotions, and spirit. This thorough cleansing program helps to avert disease and slow down the aging process. It is also used as a curative program for those suffering from allergies, obesity, chronic fatigue, fibromyalagia, Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, digestive complaints, elimination problems, arthritis, sexual and fertility disorders, and mental imbalances.

Traditionally, panchakarma is done in residence under the close supervision of an Ayurvedic practitioner. Over a period of 7 to 28 days or longer depending on the health condition, one undergoes a series of internal and external purification therapies. Panchakarma treatments act to remove harmful ama from lymph, blood, fat, muscle, bone, bone marrow, sperm, and ovum with five or more holistic methods that do not have harmful side affects. In fact, panchakarma treatments have helpful side benefits such as increased energy, increased physical mobility, greater happiness and increased sense of well-being. For many, regular treatments each year help to retard the aging process and keep the body healthy, vibrant, and attractive.

Besides ama being a physical substance in the body, ama can also be vibrational in its nature. Vibrational ama is caused by trauma, war, and other factors that contribute to Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and emotional and mental imbalances. Special therapies and counseling are provided over time to root out deep stress and return one to a normal state of functioning. There is nothing in Allopathic medicine or other indigenous cultures that compare to the complexity and depth of detoxification methods as Ayurvedic Medicine. This ancient science from India, provides great detail and wisdom that has has been time tested for efficacy over millennium.

Panchakarma at IVAC starts with a consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner who will do an exam, pulse diagnosis, and health history. A series of treatments and internal purification procedures with recommended herbal decoctions will be recommended to help soften the impurities and prepare the physiology to move toxins out. After this preparatory phase is completed you will undergo a series of body treatments depending on your condition to continue to dislodge and move the toxins out.

Ayurvedic Treatments
Ayurveda has developed magnificent treatments for renewing body and deeply centering and settling the mind. When the mind is deeply centered and settled, the body will naturally heal faster and age slower. Many of the treatments involve use of therapeutic oils and decoctions that have rare and prescious herbs that have been prepared in specific samayoga or combinations to have a profoundly healing effect. The combination of up to 50 or more ingredients in many of the preparations (for example Mahanarayana Thailam, a famous Ayurvedic oil for rejuvenation and healing deep issues), creates a remarkable effect when applied on specific points by our therapists. The sages and great Vaidyas over the ages created our rejuvenation treatments and each of them is carefully prescribed by our Vaidya (Ayurvedic physician) to be well matched to your age, condition and body type.

Ayurveda and Beauty
In the context of Ayurveda, inner and outer beauties are intimately related. The more we nurture ourselves, the more radiant we become physically and expressively- regardless of our particular body shape or proportions. Ayurveda understands beauty as being a product of general physical health and appropriate daily care. The emphasis is on self-knowledge and development of positive routines and habits that will bring out the best in each one. "The secret of youth and beauty is the proper circulation of vital life fluids and the regular discharge of waste materials." Harish Johari.

Nothing helps the body do what Johari suggests more than a massage. In the Ayurvedic tradition, massage is considered just as essential to health and beauty as good diet and other lifestyle habits. An Ayurvedic facial massage activates deep centers of the brain, reflex points and facial circulation to totally soothe the body. Tensions in the neck, shoulders and face are freed and energy is rebalanced from head to toe. Herbal extracts and essential oils may be added for their additional healing properties and pleasant fragrances.
