Asthma can be roughly translated as SWASA ROGAM in Ayurveda. Bronchial asthma is a common disease affecting 10-20 per cent of the population. Hyperactive bronchial muscles in our throat and chest respond to a stimulus that creates bronchospasm and lead to constriction of airways. This physiological changes involved in bronchial constriction create fluid retention in lung tissue and leads to asthma symptoms. The main Symptoms are coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath, symptoms often being worse at night. Disease is mild and often unrecognised. Invasion of allergens like Animal hair and fur, Pollens, Dust, Common cold, Weather changes, Sudden exertion, Food allergens, Strong odours, Emotional stress, Tobacco smoke is the prime cause for asthma. It usually occurs in episodes and the person may have symptom free times in between attacks.
Ayurveda medical science emphasizes on gastro-intestinal factors apart from the respiratory afflictions to be the cause for bronchial asthma. That is why in the preliminary stage of the disease or just before its onset, the patient complains of indigestion, constipation or diarrhoea. According to Ayurveda, the asthma of recent origin can be treated more effectively. It is not the drug alone that can give relief from asthma but regulation of diet and the change of conceptual thinking can also play a great role. Along with proper medication and control over eating and living, asthmatics can get better and quick results.

Cervical spondylosis and Lumbar Spondylosis which causes neck pain and lower back pain and it is one of the most common problems that one encounters in day to day life. In Ayurveda this condition is known as Greevagraham and Khadeegraham. It is a degenerative condition affecting the vertebral column. When it affects the neck region it is termed as cervical spondylosis and when it affects the lower back it is termed as lumbar spondylosis. The vertebral column is a delicate structure with the vertebrae arranged one over the other, cushioned by the inter vertebral discs which allows flexion of the vertebral column. The spinal cord passes through a hole in the vertebral column and extends from the lower part of the brain till the lower back. At each level of the column, nerves originate from the spinal cord and pass through gaps in the vertebrae and supplies nerves to the various parts of the body.
In spondylosis, the vertebrae, the intervertebral disc and the joints get degenerated causing disc compression, or structural changes in the vertebrae which in turn exerts pressure on the nerves passing through them and also creates stress on the nearby muscles causing the various symptoms of spondylosis. The disc sometimes gets dislocated, gets hardened and results in the formation of osteophytes. A previous injury and some lifestyle issues like bad posture, diet act as predisposing factor for the disease. X-Ray or MRI scan helps to evaluate exact problem and position and conclude to proper diagnosis Treatment. The first line of treatment is to avoid all the causative factors in both cervical and lumbar spondylosis . If the condition is diagnosed and treated at the earliest, both spondylosis is a curable disease.
If left untreated there will be degeneration process on the spine and disability to extremities. So it is always better to treat cervical spondylosis before it becomes chronic.
