'Mana' means family house of the Namboodiri(Kerala Brahmins).Poomully Namboothiri family, whose ancestral home was known by the name “Poomully Mana,” resided in Urakam of Peruvanam village in the interiors of Kerala. This family lived in an era that dates back by about 900 years. They built the original Ammathiruvadi Temple and left all their ancestral wealth to the Goddess and its administration to the Kingdom of Kochi. The family then relocated to Peringode (present-day Palakkad).

In the 'Aithihyamala' (a collection of centuries-old stories from Kerala, covering a vast spectrum of lives, famous people and events), Poomully Mana features as one of the families that had a glorious history.Poomully Mana, was once recognized as one of the cultural centres in Kerala. The members of Poomully Mana were famous as practitioners and experts in Ayurveda, Rig-veda, Yoga, Kalari (martial-art)Music & other cultural arts. Late.Sri.Poomully Narayanan Namboodirippad(father of Aramthampuran & famous Rig-veda practitioner), Late.Sri. Poomully Raman Namboothiripad, the exceptionally talented student of the famous musician Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar and Late.Sri. Poomulli Neelakandan Namboothiripad (Aramthampuran) the inimitable ayurveda practitioner, are better known among them.

Many reowned personalities from within the country and abroad visits mana for Ayurveda treatments and for practice in arts & cultural forms.The Poomully Mana's buildings and structures are in traditional Kerala style architecture. They were reconstructed under the intiative of the Late Poomully Narayanan Namboodirippad, who was the father of Poomully Aramthampuran. The Poomully manor is a brilliant piece of architecture. Its authentic design was much appreciated worldwide. The manor was reconstructed by the gifted designer-architect Vellanezhi Namboothiripad, who also reconstructed the Koothambalam at the Thrissur Vadakkunnathan Temple.The Poomully family also encouraged research into the sciences, especially ayurveda.

The Mana's library still has a huge collection of ancient manuscripts and books on ayurveda and other sciences. The Kutipraveshika treatment(Rasayana Chikitsa) to be recorded in the last century, took place at Poomully Mana in the year 1953. Poomully Vasudevan Namboodirippad had undergone Kutipraveshika treatments, under the supervision of Poomully Aramthampuran and Vaidyamadham Valiya Narayanan Namboodiri. The name & fame of Poomully Mana came on the shoulder of authentic Ayrveda treatments, kalari chikitsa, cultural activities etc. and inumerous people have benefitted from this.

The "Poomully Way" of ayurvedic treatments, designed by Aramthampuran with reference to classical ayurveda texts, are being followed at Poomully Mana.With the expertise of Poomully Aramthampuran and the other members in ayurveda and related subjects, Poomully Mana became renowned as the "Mana for Ayurveda". Poomully Mana is being used as a heritage centre for ayurveda treatments, kalari, yoga etc., providing all the amenities that suit a contemporary lifestyle, without losing traditional values and principles which heighten the processes.

Poomully mana offers special workshops and training programmes in classical art forms, martial arts, Panchakarma, Yoga and meditation. There is opportunity for the qualified ayurveda doctors(B.A.M.S) to work under the senior doctors of Poomully Mana for enhancing practical experience and expertise in ayurvedic treatment/therapies and medicine.

Poomully Aramthampuran was a great promoter of Yoga. The Poomully Aramthampuran Smaraka Trust imparts training in Yoga using the expertise of seasoned practitioners. Normally the immunity power will be low during treatment days and complete rest is required during ayurvedic treatment period. However in certain cases some of the yogasanas or stretching exercises are found to be supportive to the treatments. Inpatients are permitted to do yoga or exercises during treatment days, only if the doctors recommended it after direct consultation. Otherwise it may affect the treatments adversely.

Kalaripayattu training centre was started by Aramthampuran in 1940. This Kalari is situated in the Agrashala of Sri Rama Temple at Poomully Mana. Sri.Poomully Neelakandan Nampoothirippadu took his first lessons from Sri Ananthan Nair. Later Sri C.V Appu Nambiar Gurukkal took up the task of teaching Thampuran. The Poomully's Guru-Shishya relationship is the perfect Mentor-Disciple bonding that we long for today. Thampuran has lot of discipls in Kalari. His prime disciple in Kalari is his son ,Sri.Poomully Narayanan Namboodirippad..

This Kalari is still very much alive under the supervision of Poomully Narayana Namboodirippad. Mey-payattu, Kolpayattu, Ottakkol Payattu, Kalari Marma Chikilsa & Chavitti Uzhichil are some of the specialities of Poomully Kalari. At Poomully Mana, therefore, we ensure an ambience necessary for an authentic Ayurvedic centre. We have: Qualified doctors and expert therapists; fresh oral medicines (without addition of any preservatives); eco-friendly and green surroundings; spacious bed rooms (with furniture designed in the antique model); attached bathrooms with hot water facility; and Internet to help people stay connected to the rest of the world. Our buildings are of the typical Kerala architecture, surrounded by herbal plants and trees, complete with natural traditional ponds. We also have a Kalarippayattu training centre, a manuscript library, a Kathakali costumes center, etc., in addition to everything else.

Specialities

In-patient Treatment Facility .Advance reservation is necessary for confirmation of booking for inpatient treatments. Normally the duration of treatment program for each ailment can be decided only after direct consultation and depends upon the response towards the treatments and medication. 11 or 14 or 21 or 28 days are generally recommended for an Ayurvedic treatment program.

Patients can either visit our centre for direct consultation or contact us through email in order to fix the duration in the light of available details. There will be Doctor's consultation at the time of admission. The treatment plan including treatments/therapies, medicines, diet etc. will be finalized by our doctors only after direct consultation. Patients need to carry their medical investigation reports details of present medication (if any) during their visit for inpatient treatments.

Normally there will be one or two sessions of ayurvedic treatments, oral medication, Pathya-diet('Pathya diet' means easily digestible vegetarian or organic diet which will be prescribed by our doctors for getting maximum benefits out of ayurveda treatments) etc. during treatment period. We have included some of the Ayurvedic therapies available at Poomully Mana along with a small description. Due to practical difficulty the list of all the therapies cannot included in this page. Doctors will suggest the suitable Ayurvedic therapies after direct personalized consultation at Mana.
