EXTERNAL THERAPIES IN SIDDHA - External therapies in Siddha are broadly classified under 32 categories.Recently, External therapies ARE assuming great importance, since they are safe and efficient, though simple. Therapies are aimed at maintaining a healthy balance of the three humours (vali, azhal, iyyam) and nourishment of saptha dhathus namely saaram(lymph), cheneer(blood), oon(muscle), kozhuppu(fat), yenbu(bone), moolai(marrow), sukkilam(reproductive tissue).
Among the external therapies, physical therapies like thokkanam, varmam and pilzhichal are useful in treating neuromuscular disorders. Steam therapy, nasal drops and oleation therapy are advised in treating kapha diseases like respiratory infections, bronchial asthma, etc.. Bloodletting therapies like leech application, entail blood purification and useful in curing skin allergies, eczema and contusion.
